Turkey Day Race/Walk Continued

Here, Molly and Sarah are getting their numbers ready to wear for the Annual Turkey Day Race/Walk.  For our family, it has started to become a family tradition for Thanksgiving.  This obsiously has for a lot of other families too, and many of the same people come each year.  Thanksgiving is a time when a lot of the families get back together for the holidays, and this is a good way to make it a part of tradition.

This is the race finish line.  You cross the mat, and the timing system is connected to enter you and your time because of the chip we all have on our shoes.  It worked great this year.  As far as I know, there were no glitches.  It did not work the greatest last year, maybe because of how cold it was.  We use this same system for the hospital hill run, and we usually have some glitches with it.  It still works much better than manually timing everybody, and then trying to get everybody categorized into their age brackets.  Keep in mind for next year.  Hope to see you then!

Turkey Day Race Images

Here was the registration area for the Turkey Day Race/Walk yesterday on Thanksgiving.  All of the packets of the pre-registered people are all set up.  There were also people registering that morning.   A total of 329 participants for the day.

Here Jill Makepeace, family and friends are getting ready for the race.  They decided to participate wearing “tutus”.  It was a great way to spend the morning.  Pumpkin pie for all participants, but after the race/walk was done.  You had to earn your pie!  I will show a few more images tomorrow as well.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving everybody!  Here we all are getting the food ready, and about set to sit down.  We had just participated in the Annual Hiedeman Turkey Day run/walk earlier this AM, and are now getting ready to eat.  We got our exercise in for the day, and can now justify “splurging” a little with the food.

The food was wonderful, and well worth the effort.  Sarah and the kids, her mom, brother, and sister even all went out for a walk after eating because it was so nice out.  Now they have room to do it again for supper.   Are not holidays fun, or what?  Have a good Thanksgiving, and hopefully you get to spend some time with your family.  I will post some pictures of the race today later this week.

Healthy Holiday Eating

With Thanksgiving only a few days away, you are probably busy getting your groceries and putting the final touches on the holiday menu.  With our society putting so much focus on holiday eating, it’s hard not to over-indulge! Here are a few tips to help you get through it without having to unbutton that extra button for more belly room.

  • Survey the entire table and decide what foods are really worth eating and what foods can be ignored. Why waste calories on foods that don’t even bring you pleasure!
  • Eat a snack before you leave home or indulge in the big feast. If you come to the table starving, you’ll be more likely to over-indulge.
  • Eat your calories instead of drinking them. Watch out for high calories drinks such as alcoholic beverages, egg nog, punches, etc.
  • Try not to hang out near the food. Find a comfortable spot in another room and focus on your friends and family rather than the food.
  • Drop out of the clean plate club. It’s ok to leave a few bites behind!
  • Choose light meat over dark meat (less calories and fat)
  • Skip the pie crust and go for the filling
  • And most of all enjoy the meaning of the holiday and all that we have to be thankful for!
