Warm Winter

Even though the Lake is getting iced over, the temperatures this weekend have been very nice, and very enjoyable for spending outside.  When we went walking today, we saw severa out on the Lake ice fishing already.  It was 41 degrees when we went this afternoon.  The longer we go with no other snow, the better!

Here Sarah and Buddy are walking towards me by the boat landing near Jackson Park.  We plan on taking advantage of thes days outside with no snow and ice for as long as we can.  You do the same!  Have a good week coming up!

Occupational Health

I got the opportunity to spend  much of yesterday and part of today with the great folks at Reliabank. We have teamed up with Reliabank to offer occupational health screenings which includes lab and body composition testing in their own location! It’s a great opportunity for the business to promote health of their employees while making it convenient for them when we come to them, rather than them having to find a time to come to the clinic. Most of you know about our 12 week wellness program, however occupational health services is another part of our STRIVE 2 Survive wellness efforts at the clinic. If you want to learn more about our services, be sure to contact us as we’d love to work with you!

Don’t Let the Cold Stop You!

Yes, it is getting colder outside, but we still have no snow, or very little.  Here Sarah is getting ready to go out this sunday morning with Buddy for a walk, who is ready anytime!  You just have to be smarter about what you wear.

Here is a close up of Sarah.  She has several layers on, and the face mask and hat.  She went out with Buddy for a 3 mile walk, or about 45 minutes time, and did fine.  You still have the options of doing exercise indoors, but there are times when you just need to get out, and have other things to look at.  Take advantage of the no snow yet.  It will be coming!  Have a good week coming!

You Are What You Eat

Ever heard that saying? I had a recent request to discuss foods that help keep our skin healthy and glowing and that saying came to mind when thinking of this specific topic. What eat truly does make a difference in our bodies, not only inside, but the outside too! Diets high in fat and white carbs can cause issues with our skin, whereas a balanced diet, focused on bright colored fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, and healthy fats can truly help make our skin glow. Below is a list of the top foods to promote healthy skin:

  • Low fat dairy products & yellow/orange fruits and vegetables such as carrots and apricots: foods high in vitamin A promote healthy skin
  • Berries, such as blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, etc: these foods are full of antioxidants, helping promote healthy skin
  • Healthy fats founds in salmon, walnuts, almonds, canola oil, and olive oil: these foods contain essential fatty acids helping make our skin healthy and glowing
  • Whole grains: contain selenium, which promotes skin health
  • Green Tea & Water: green tea contains anti-inflammatory properties and water helps keep us hydrated.

You may notice many of these foods are on the heart healthy list as well, so not only are you going to have glowing skin, you’ll have a healthy heart!

Fall STRIVE Recap

Last week we finished up our fall session of STRIVE 2 Survive. We had a great group and really enjoyed working with all of you! The results are still coming in, but so far we’ve seen weight loss from 5-20lbs and great improvements in cholesterol, blood pressure, and waist circumference. One of our major goals of STRIVE 2 Survive is to promote lifelong health and wellness, thus this 12 weeks is just the start of a new way of living for our participants. We are not fond of fad diets and do not promote that, rather we encourage nutrition and exercise interventions that not only improve your health, wellness, and weight, but also can be followed long term.

We are taking a little break during the month of December and will start back up again in January with our winter session. Our first lecture is January 3rd at the County Fair Banquet Hall at 5:30. Since lab (lipid panel and fasting glucose) and body composition are included at the beginning and end of the program, enrollment is starting now! If you want to learn more and/or reserve your spot, please contact us. We look forward to celebrating the success of many more!
