Congratulations!

Congratulations to our Fall STRIVE 2 Survivors on a great job! As our 4th session came to an end last night, we have been excited to see such great results with weight loss, cholesterol, blood pressure, and glucose improvements, and improved nutrition and exercise habits. Even though the program is 12 weeks, it’s 12 weeks to a new you and a lifetime full of good health and wellness!

We look forward to our winter program that will start January 3rd. Please see our calendar for more details on dates. If you’re interested, contact us to learn more!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Should I take supplements?

Have you ever considered taking a supplement?  Could be a vitamin supplement, fish oil, flax seed, or maybe even an herb? Supplements have a purpose in our health, however we do encourage you to choose food first as they provide the more natural source of vitamins and minerals. An example of this would be vitamin D and calcium that we can get from a healthy intake of dairy products like milk, yogurt, and cottage cheese. If you are lactose intolerant or have an allergy to milk, then a supplement may be appropriate for you. Tonight at our STRIVE 2 Survive lecture, Deidra VanGilder, PharmD will be discussing when taking supplements are appropriate, which ones are safe, and how much we should be taking. Since supplements are not regulated by the FDA, it’s important to take appropriate precaution and ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking them. I always enjoy Deidra’s lecture as this is definitely a “hot topic” in nutrition and a great part of our STRIVE 2 Survive program.

Career Fair = Success!

Yesterday, Brown Clinic participated in the Watertown Multi District’s Career Fair at the Watertown Senior High School. We shared our knowledge about our health care careers with students and gave them the opportunity to learn more by playing medical jepeordy. Stef Carlson above was the master-mind behind the interactive game that really helped students learn more about medical careers. Our booth won first place for most interactive and we were thrilled to have that honor! Below is a picture of our group. We represented several career fields including radiology, lab, nursing, health care administration, HR, and dietetics.
