A view of the bike trail this far into December. It was absolutely gorgeous outside today…high 40’s. I went for a walk with Sarah and Buddy, 4 miles, and then decided it was too nice to be done yet, so I went another 2 miles. I am loving this weather! There were quite a few people out today taking advantage of this spring time winter weather.

This couple was out enjoying the day as well. Take advantage of it NOW! I can’t believe it has been going this long. Don’t waste it. The snow will be coming, and we can still be outside, but it will limit what type of activities we can do, and where. The bike trail won’t be this readily usable. Hope everybody had a good weekend. Get ready for the upcoming holidays…a time to spend with your family.

Are you looking to improve your nutrition, exercise habits, strength, and overall health? If so, we can help! We have our winter STRIVE 2 Survive session starting January 3rd. The 12 week program includes 6 in person meeting and 6 take home lessons that are emailed or mailed to you. There are 2 main components in our program: Diet and Exercise. STRIVE 2 Survive is not only a weight loss program, but more so a program aimed at improving your health and wellness long term, thus we strive to reduce risk of heart disease, diabetes, and other related diseases by making improvements in blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugars. Our results from past programs have been excellent. If you’d like to learn more and/or sign up for the winter session please contact us 886-8482 or email us at strive2survive@brownclinic.org.
I will be out most of next week to spend some time with family that will be home for Christmas. If you miss us when you call or email, leave us a message and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can!

I got the opportunity to spend much of yesterday and part of today with the great folks at Reliabank. We have teamed up with Reliabank to offer occupational health screenings which includes lab and body composition testing in their own location! It’s a great opportunity for the business to promote health of their employees while making it convenient for them when we come to them, rather than them having to find a time to come to the clinic. Most of you know about our 12 week wellness program, however occupational health services is another part of our STRIVE 2 Survive wellness efforts at the clinic. If you want to learn more about our services, be sure to contact us as we’d love to work with you!

Last week we finished up our fall session of STRIVE 2 Survive. We had a great group and really enjoyed working with all of you! The results are still coming in, but so far we’ve seen weight loss from 5-20lbs and great improvements in cholesterol, blood pressure, and waist circumference. One of our major goals of STRIVE 2 Survive is to promote lifelong health and wellness, thus this 12 weeks is just the start of a new way of living for our participants. We are not fond of fad diets and do not promote that, rather we encourage nutrition and exercise interventions that not only improve your health, wellness, and weight, but also can be followed long term.
We are taking a little break during the month of December and will start back up again in January with our winter session. Our first lecture is January 3rd at the County Fair Banquet Hall at 5:30. Since lab (lipid panel and fasting glucose) and body composition are included at the beginning and end of the program, enrollment is starting now! If you want to learn more and/or reserve your spot, please contact us. We look forward to celebrating the success of many more!

Are you recovered from the Thanksgiving holiday weekend? I know I am still working on it! We had a great holiday weekend and feel so blessed to have been able to spend it with wonderful family. As Thanksgiving day came to an end, Adam and I attended 3 Thanksgiving dinners. We are fortunate to have much of our family around the area, however it does make our holidays a bit crazy as we try to get to everything! Practicing portion control was essential for us to get through the day. I work hard to practice what I preach and it was definetly put into action this day!
A highlight of my weekend was taking my 2 1/2 year old neice to the Children’s Museum in Brookings on Friday. This picture is of Kate grocery shopping at the store in the museum. To say the least, Aunt Kelsey is very proud of her grocery selections! It’s essential to teach them good nutrition at a young age to promote life long health and longevity. If you haven’t been to the museum, I highly encourage it! There are many options for the children to do, that not only promotes learning, but also activity!
