Well, Sarah and I had a busy weekend in Fargo. We did the 5K run friday night, then the 1/2 marathon on saturday morning. If we did both, it was called the Go Far Challenge, for Fargo! We each got another medal for doing both. We will add them to our collection over the years.

It was the 10th Anniversary of the Fargo marathon and half marathon. They also had a 5K and 10K walk and run. With all 4 races, there were over 22,000 people who participated! It was a busy, but fun weekend. Here is a picture of the start line for the 5K friday night.

This is a race to start off doing. You are surrounded by people from start to finish. Keep moving everybody!

Last night was the first time meeting at Anytime Fitness for the running club. I was joined by Kyle, Owen, Karen, and Rich. We started out easy, as Karen and Rich were just beginning. Karen was still very reluctant to start. But, she made it a 1/4 mile! We all have to start somewhere, and I give her a lot of credit for trying. As time goes on, this will increase as well. The rain held off long enough to get the run in. Bottom line…it does not matter how far you want to run. If you are interested, we will figure out some kind of a route to get you going. The only people who fail are the ones who never make an attempt. Kudos to you Karen! See you for the next WARC gathering. Keep moving everybody!

A few of us braved the weather…rain, sleet, snow to meet for the beginning of the Watertown Area Running Club. I will admit, it was not the funnest run, but, it was definitely funner in a group. I would have run inside today, or changed workouts if I were to do it on my own. We did 4 miles as a group, then Sarah wanted to do a couple more, so I went with her. We wre already wet!

As this poster from Runner’s World sums it up, from legendary coach Bill Bowerman: There is no such thing as bad weather, just soft people. Today would have been one of those on my own. Thanks to Sarah, Steve, and Jackie for braving the elements with me today. Hopefully going forward we will have some better weather, and funner runs. Here is to the future. Keep moving everybody!

May is National Blood Pressure Month. It is important for all of us to keep track of what our blood pressure readings are. Normal blood pressure is considered 120/80, and the goal is to have everybody be no higher than 140/90. We have talked many times on this blod about the importance of both diet and exercise for our health, and no where is it more important than in relation to our blood pressure. Nearly 68 million people in the U.S. have high blood pressure, or hypertension. Hypertension increasese the risk for heart disease and stroke, the first and third leading cause of death in the United States.

Get your blood pressure checked, and if it is elevated, see your doctor about what options are available to control it for you. Take control of your blood pressure, before it takes control of you! Keep moving everybody!

We all have a goal as parents: We want to see our kids grow up, and to be happy! Prom was last night, and it was our son Nick’s turn. He is a junior. Sarah and I exercise all the time, try to watch our diet, and stay healthy, so we can be around more for our kids, and to see them grow up. This is what life is all about! Here is proud mom with her son. We just got done having 18 kids over at our house to eat prior to going to the grand march.

And of course, we have to have one with Dad also! This is what it is all about. We watched Nick the day before at the Watoma relays. He had a great day, taking 3rd in the mile, and being a part of the winning relay teams of the Medley, and the mile relay. Important to keep everybody active! Enjoy life. Keep moving everybody!
