Best Diets

The US News has evaluated and ranked 20 diets using a panel of health experts. I find this information very fascinating as the diets that are at the top of the list are ones I incorporate into my daily medical nutrition therapy at the clinic and with our STRIVE 2 Survive participants.  These top ranked diets include recommendations that have been proven to improve disease such as heart disease (including cholesterol and blood pressure), diabetes, and aid in weight loss. In addition, it’s important to note these diets are not quick, fad diets with missing food groups. They are balanced diets that one can incorporate the recommendations into their lifestyle and not feel too restricted or miss out on an important food group.  These principles are the foundation of my nutrition therapy, as we strive to keep you healthy for life and work at disease prevention not just a quick fix! Please note that the USDA MyPlate is not included as they targeted specific weight loss diet plans not overall healthy eating plans like MyPlate is.

A tasty fall treat

As we strive to find variety in our diets while keeping them healthy, I wanted to share with you one of my favorite fall treats: apples with carmel! This is a great way to get your fruit in while giving your sweet tooth satisfaction. I choose fat free carmel to reduce the fat and calories, but portion control is still important to watch with the carmel! Next time you’re looking for a sweet fall treat, try this!

Enjoy!

Happy Halloween!

Have a safe and Happy Halloween everybody.  It just goes to show, you are never to old to have fun with this holiday.  Here is a picture of Dr. Lawrence today.  He used this costume multiple times with patients today, who all this was just great!  They thought it was fun to see a doctor have fun at work!

Of course, with kids at home, you are always going to have fun, regardless of their age.  Here Molly carved a pumpkin this weekend, and then wanted to bring it to the “doctor” because her pumpkin got “sick” while she was carving it.  At least that is the story she is sticking with.  Here is a picture of her “art work”.

Have a fun holiday everybody.  Relax, and don’t take life so serious.  There are more than enough opportunities for this to happen.  Have a good week.

Halloween Hustle Fun Run “Incredible”

Well, the Halloween Hustle Fun Run yesterday was a lot of fun, and great weather.  It was in the mid 30’s, but very calm.  Very good day for a fun run, walk.  Here Sarah and I are in are costumes, as we went as the “Incredibles”.  Everything for the run, day, event was “Incredible”, and everybody there had a good time.  The Jolly Green Giant showed up, and we found “Waldo”, as well as several other super heroes, to name a few.

Molly agreed to wear her costume, here with Sarah, but we could not convince Nick to wear his.  He was too serious yesterday, and really wanted to try and win the race.  He achieved his goal, winning the race, with a time of 18:46.  All of us had a fun morning, and was a great way to spend the day as a family.  Following this, Sarah and I went back to the pool for Megan’s swim meet.  All of us were busy this weekend!
