Why Exercising Outside Tops it All!

Sunset Jamaica 1

There is nothing like an outdoor view to look when out running, biking, or walking.  It takes your mind off the fact that you are even exercising, and you just get lost in the view of everything.  These are some of the sunset views out walking in the evening along the beach in Jamaica.

The sunrises in the AM were just as great to watch as well, because I would go out running along the beach each morning.

Getting ready to start the day!  We have great views right here at home as well.  If you go along the trail anywhere along the lake, you get great views of sunrises and sunsets as well.  The weather is starting to improve now as well, which is great.  I love exercising outside!  Stay positive everybody!  Spring is almost here!  Keep moving everybody!

Life is a Beach!

running jamaica beach

Just getting back from vacation in Jamaica last week, and it was great!  Sarah and I got to run along the beach every morning, temps upper 60’s to low 70’s when running.  Talk about quiet, and time to think, and just listen to the ocean.  Life is a beach! Here are some more views:

We got to relax on the beach the rest of the day, sitting under canopy, and just relaxing, reading, falling asleep!  I don’t tan, so Sarah would just pull her chair out when she wanted more sun, then come back unde the shade for awhile.  Very relaxing sitting on the beach right next to the ocean.

Just watch the ocean and be mesmerized!  Bright colors, and out of the snow for a week, especially after this awful winter!  Stay tuned as my next post will show some of the great sunsets we would see every night.  Amazing!  Keep moving everybody!

Phoenix: A Nice Change in Scenery to Explore Outside!

cactus and trail

Phoenix last week provided a great new venue to explore and enjoy the outdoors.  Typical temps in the day were into the 70’s.  At the bottom of the hotel we stayed at had a hiking trail that Phoenix developed.  Here is one view of the cactus along the way.  We don’t get to see too much of this in SD!  At least our side of the state.

Different views along the way and what the trails were like.  Here are a few more:

And this last one is a good view of the mountains around as a whole, and how the trails went on this.

It was a great late afternoon the one day to go walking on this, and the first day I went running in the AM because the conference did not start until late afternoon.  My run covered 9 miles, and lots of hills.  It was a very quiet, nice view to observe for a run or walk.  People were also out on Mountains bikes, but with all the rocks, I still think this would have a been a lot harder.  Keep moving everybody!

Hills: A Different “Pointe” of View

hills 1

I went to a conference last week in Phoenix with people from the hospital, and the hotel we stayed at was built into a mountain.  Now normally, I like hills, but these were Mountains.  Going up and down these 3-4 times a day back and forth from the conference got a little tiring.  This one started up towards my room, then turned into this one:

You keep going up and around to the left, and it goes to this one:

And then at the top of this was one of the restaurants at the hotel:

Pointe of View

We went up there a few nights and the view overlooking Phoenix at night was quite impressive.  At least at night, we took a ride up and down for this place.  Of course, any time you went up, you had to come down:

The road going right by my room had an appropriate name:

cliffside drive

Need I say more?  It was great going running outside everyday, which I did.  Started off in the low 50’s and got up into the 70’s.  They have a trail head at the bottom of the resort for hiking trails through the mountains there.  I was able to go on this for some late afternoon walks, and I will show a few of these pictures later this week.  I wanted to be outside as much as possible since there was no snow here!  Keep moving everybody!

Surprise from Anytime Fitness

Anytime Goofy fnal

I have been working out this Winter at Anytime Fitness due to the cold and ice.  The staff there had a T-shirt printed out just for me after I came back from Orlando doing the Goofy Challenge.  This is the front of the T-shirt.

…this is the back of the T-shirt.  Total suprise, and it made my day!  They just featured me with doing the Goofy Challenge on their most recent electronic newsletter, which also was quite the surprise.  It is a great place to workout, and I can go whenever it is convenient for me, which I love!  All of this was quite the surprise, and much appreciated.  Be safe working out this Winter.  Keep moving everybody.

Time to get Goofy!

Running partners

We are getting ready to head out to Orlando for the Disney half and full marathon again.  Sarah will be doing the 1/2 marathon saturday, and Steve Hauck and I will be doing the Goofy Challenge:  doing the 1/2 marathon on saturday, and then the full marathon on sunday!  Little nervous, but fired up as well.  First time for doing this.  Steve and I did the full marathon last year.  It was Steve’s first.

The weather should be great!  It will be a little tough being this hot right away.  Temps to be in the 60’s to start off, and end in the low 80’s by the finish line.  A far cry from 40-50 below zero!  Our goal:  We are just going to finish.  We are not worried about time.  We will take our pictures with all of the characters along the way.  Training partners sticking together!  Stay moving everybody!
