Winter Exercise

With the weather warming up, it would be a great time to go out cross country skiing.  Sarah and I had an afternoon off last week when we were in the Black Hills for a conference and we went cross country skiing.  Weather was in the upper 30’s–perfect!  We spent the afternoon up in the Hills on the Mickelson trail.  Wonderfull way to spend outside, and enjoy the scenery, and exercise all at the same time.  Will show some more pictures over the next few days.

New Years Reflection

Well, how is everybodys New Years Resolutions doing one month into it?  Have your goals still been realistic?  Are you trying to do too much all at once?  Are you frustrated, had enough, and ready to quit?  I have been hearing lots of these phrases lately.  Remember, all of this is about a “Lifestyle Change”,  not a weight loss program.  You cannot expect to watch all of your calories, and push exercise, and expect everything to fall into place right away.  You will have setbacks.  Tackle either the calorie counting/diet changes, or the exercise first, and then slowly incorporate the second phase in.  Here is a picture of me after one of my marathons.  I am totally exhausted.  I gave it everything I had.  It took 2 people to help get me up off the ground here.  Bottom line….you don’t quit!  You may have to slow down, turn down the intensity, but you keep working at it.  Anything worth having is worth working for.  That thing worth having is YOU!  Remember when you are struggling,   “Reflect” back on what worked and what didn’t, and adapt to it.  Perserverance is a big key!  Keep going!

The Beauty of Nature

I think with all the snow, and cold weather, it was time to bring back a view from warmer days.  This again was on our adventure hiking in the Rocky Mountains the first week of October 2010.  The views out hiking were incredible.  The hours we would spend hiking just flew by, and did not even seem like we were exercising.  This brings back good memories once again, and to a time when there was no snow!  That time will come again.  It is supposed to be 30 degrees tomorrow…great temp to go outside for a run!

Winter Weather

Well, when you factor in the wind chill, nothing like a 30 degree shift in positive temperature to make things feel better. My car thermometer said 30 degrees today! It can make things more tolerable when the temp picks up. Wait until Spring comes! A few more months to get through. We can do it! On the lower portion of this pictue you can see tracks from somebody having been out cross country skiing. This would have been a good day for this. Keep your chin up! Keep looking and focusing on your exercise goals, your New Years Resolutions, or Reflections from this year. I think next we will go over some tips for how to stay healthy when the weather around us is not good. Stay tuned….
