Here, Molly and Sarah are getting their numbers ready to wear for the Annual Turkey Day Race/Walk. For our family, it has started to become a family tradition for Thanksgiving. This obsiously has for a lot of other families too, and many of the same people come each year. Thanksgiving is a time when a lot of the families get back together for the holidays, and this is a good way to make it a part of tradition.

This is the race finish line. You cross the mat, and the timing system is connected to enter you and your time because of the chip we all have on our shoes. It worked great this year. As far as I know, there were no glitches. It did not work the greatest last year, maybe because of how cold it was. We use this same system for the hospital hill run, and we usually have some glitches with it. It still works much better than manually timing everybody, and then trying to get everybody categorized into their age brackets. Keep in mind for next year. Hope to see you then!

Here was the registration area for the Turkey Day Race/Walk yesterday on Thanksgiving. All of the packets of the pre-registered people are all set up. There were also people registering that morning. A total of 329 participants for the day.

Here Jill Makepeace, family and friends are getting ready for the race. They decided to participate wearing “tutus”. It was a great way to spend the morning. Pumpkin pie for all participants, but after the race/walk was done. You had to earn your pie! I will show a few more images tomorrow as well.

Happy Thanksgiving everybody! Here we all are getting the food ready, and about set to sit down. We had just participated in the Annual Hiedeman Turkey Day run/walk earlier this AM, and are now getting ready to eat. We got our exercise in for the day, and can now justify “splurging” a little with the food.

The food was wonderful, and well worth the effort. Sarah and the kids, her mom, brother, and sister even all went out for a walk after eating because it was so nice out. Now they have room to do it again for supper. Are not holidays fun, or what? Have a good Thanksgiving, and hopefully you get to spend some time with your family. I will post some pictures of the race today later this week.

The annual Turkey Day Race, 5K run and 2 mile walk, will be again on Thanksgiving, this thursday, starting at 10 AM. The weather is supposed to be great, and it is a great way to get your exercise in before you sit down and eat the rest of the day. It is a great social gathering, and usually about 150+ people that come. Below is the information for the race. Come out and enjoy before the holiday meal!

Well, the Halloween Hustle Fun Run yesterday was a lot of fun, and great weather. It was in the mid 30’s, but very calm. Very good day for a fun run, walk. Here Sarah and I are in are costumes, as we went as the “Incredibles”. Everything for the run, day, event was “Incredible”, and everybody there had a good time. The Jolly Green Giant showed up, and we found “Waldo”, as well as several other super heroes, to name a few.

Molly agreed to wear her costume, here with Sarah, but we could not convince Nick to wear his. He was too serious yesterday, and really wanted to try and win the race. He achieved his goal, winning the race, with a time of 18:46. All of us had a fun morning, and was a great way to spend the day as a family. Following this, Sarah and I went back to the pool for Megan’s swim meet. All of us were busy this weekend!

I often get asked by patients, not only how I find the time to exercise, but why do I exercise? By the end of each day, the answer becomes easier. This weekend was a perfect example of that.

First, on saturday, there was the State Cross Country meet in Sioux Falls. Here Nick is competing, and for a 9th grader on varsity, does very well. The weather was perfect, and I did a lot of running just to keep up in order to take pictures. Then when this was done, it was back in the car to go home and make it to the school in order to see my girls at the annual TUCKS dance, which they have been planning for months.

We got back in time to be able to take pictures quick before the grand march and presentation of all of the couples. The girls were very happy that we got back in time for this.
So why do I exercise? I have too many things to do and see in regards to my kids. I want to be around for a long time and be a part of their lives, and participate in those activities. I want to be healthy enough to be around for them. These are some of my main driving forces, the things that keep me motivated and enthusiastic about my health, and my daily exercise. I am staying in shape, and feel better, but the bottom line is I am doing this for my kids and my family. Hopefully they will be stuck with me for a long time. I, and they, would not want to have it any other way! Have a good week coming.
