Sunday Buddy

This morning was perfect to go out for a walk, so of course, I took my training buddy, “Buddy”.  We were out walking, and Sarah was coming back from running, so he had to go greet her as well, and then wanted to go running with her.  He turned 9 this summer, and the running is getting a little tough for him, but he does great walking, so he had to finish up with me.

We took a little break about half way through, and went and watched the Lake from the new dock they put in this summer.  Very nice day.  Our days of this weather are getting more limited by the day, so make sure you get out with your training “buddy” and enjoy the weather.  Here is to a good week coming.

Fog in the Air

With the air being cooler in the morning, it makes for some great scenery when the sun comes out.  Here this AM, this “jet stream” of fog was in the air.  Very peaceful and relaxing time to go out running and pass through some of these pockets of fog.  The time goes by even faster when you have some interesting things to look at while you are out exercising.  When the sun was shining more later, these pockets of fog were just hanging low to the bike trail, and made for an indescribable calm as I passed through them.  It made for a great way to start the day.  Try it sometime!

Great Day for a Walk

Rode around the Lake this afternoon on my bike after it quit raining and started to warm, and the weather was perfect to go for a walk.  Bike path is good at times, but sometimes you just need to get off of the beaten path and be alone to think.  It was a perfect day for that.  Everything is always so busy, with all of us having a thousand things to do, and even that won’t get us caught up.  We need to get things done, but we also need to take time to relax and enjoy.  In the next few days, it is supposed to cool down again, and then will warm back up again, and last awhile.  I am ready to hang on to these kind of days for as long as possible.  Take the time to get out…you won’t regret it.  Enjoy the coming week.

Taking Time to Relax

When you are deciding on your goals, take to the time to sit back and really think about them.  What do you think you can reasonably expect to change, or accomplish?  What do you expect to get out of the change should you achieve it?  So before you go diving into a list of goals that may be unreasonable, or unachievable, sit back and really take the time to think about it.  This goes for exercise in general.  Even when you do get into a regular exercise routine, it is OK to listen to your body and relax, or take a day off if you need it, or to ease back on how much exercise you may do that day.  You need recovery days too.  Here Sarah sits out at the lake and takes in some rays of sun after we had gone out for a bike ride around the lake on sunday, when it was still really nice out.  Enjoy the relaxation time too!

Setting Goals–Stand Out

We had our first session for the next S2S program, and we had a discussion on goal setting.  You as an individual have to decide your own goals, and what it is you want to achieve with your health, and how exercise and proper nutrition can help.  You have to make yourself  “Stand Out” in your own eyes.  One way to help with this is to keep in mind when it comes to your goals, be SMART.

Your goals need to be: Specific; Measurable; Achievable; Realistic; and Timely–SMART.  As long as you keep your focus on these components, it will easier to reach your goals.  These next several posts will help elaborate more of things to consider when creating your goals.

Happy Labor Day!

Happy Labor Day!  Hopefully you will be able to get out and enjoy some of the day, or even from the weekend if you were really lucky.  Weather is very comfortable, and our good weather won’t be lasting long.  Get out on the water, or go for a walk, clean up the yard, somthing…but spend it outside and enjoy the day.  Good day for family time as well.  Relax!
