In about a month, March will be here and it will be time for us to start our spring program of STRIVE 2 Survive! Spring STRIVE starts March 10th and enrollment is just starting. Our 12 week program starts March 10th and we will meet in person every other Tuesday at the County Fair Banquet Hall from 5:30-6:30pm (see dates below). The weeks we do not meet, you will be given a take home lesson mailed or emailed to you, thus every week you will be given education, tips, etc on nutrition and activity. In addition, we include lab work (total lipid panel and glucose) and body composition testing (weight, height, BMI, blood pressure, fat%, and muscle mass) at the beginning and end of the program. The total cost is $130, which includes all lessons, lab work, and body composition testing.

Our main goal is to help you learn how to live a healthier lifestyle that promotes disease prevention, longevity, and quality of life. Weight loss, improved lipids, improved glucose, improved blood pressure, and improved overall health are all results of our program.

If you are interested or know of someone who is, please contact us anytime! You can call me directly at 884-4226 or email strive2survive@brownclinic.org. We are looking forward to another great session!

Hills can be a Challenge!

Sarah and I were out in Deadwood the last few days for our annual state Family Medicine conference.  When we took off from the hotel, we had only one way to go…up!  A mile up, then a mile down, and then back! We stopped at the top of the one hill…quite the name.  Stage Run!

Here Sarah is running up, then down.  You can see how high a climb it is in the background.

Here I am as well!

I will show some more of our routes, and the scenery, as well as some with Steve, my marathon partner, in the next few days as well. It was nice being back outside and having a change in scenery as well.  The only problem is these were not really hills, but mountains!  Keep moving everybody!

What a Nice Change in Weather Lately!

What a nice break in the weather lately.  Nothing like a 70+ degree shift in temp.  When the wind chills were -30 below or worse, to going almost 40 above, it has been great to get back outside for a run or walk.

dan winter final

It does not really feel like winter going out for a run in these temps.  Very comfortable.  Yesterday the wind was not very fun, but it was absolutely perfect this AM.  Sarah took advantage of this as well.  Here she is out for her morning run.

And of course, Zeus cannot be left out.  He loves going out for a walk, and when it is this nice out, we can go 3-4 miles with him, and we won’t freeze.  That is what Zeus and I did this AM.  He is getting bigger all of the time.

I don’t know how long this break in the cold will be, but get outside and enjoy it.  It was really was a nice morning to be outside.  Keep moving everybody!

2015: What would make a Happy New Year?

Dan thumbs up

What are your goals/plans for 2015?  What do you want to do?  To Achieve? It basically comes down to what is right for you.  Only you can decide what that may be.  Just remember to keep some basics concepts in mind.  Look deep inside of you to decide what is it that is really important to you.  What drives your interests?  What truly is important to you?  For me, it always boils down to the main essentials:  My Family!

And of course, we can’t forget about Zeus!

Just remember, keep in mind what is important to you, and then set your goals in relation to them.  It will be much easier to create goals that are important to you.  Set those goals to be challenging, but achievable.  Remember to take into account your schedule limitations, as everybody’s is different.  How hard are you willing to work, and what are you willing to sacrifice?  As long as you keep your core objectives in mind of why you are even wanting to have goals in the first place, then they will be much easier, and rewarding, to achieve.  Keep moving everybody!
