Today, June 4, is National Running Day

The first wednesday in June, today, June 4, is National Running Day, created back in 2009.  It is a good time to reflect on why you run, or even better, a good day to begin to run, to encourage others to run and begin taking that first step.  It is also a day to sign up for a race, set new goals, or to just run a little further than you ever had.

run start

Here was this years start of the Fargo 5k in May.  Over 6,000 people joined in, some running a 5k for the very first time.  For the majority of us, we are in competition with ourselves.  We are trying to create new goals for ourselves, and to begin with, our minds our the biggest obstacle.  It is time to change, put your head down, and start thinking of a new goal.  For those wanting a new challenge, the glow run is this friday night beginning at the Elks, at 8:30.  No times, just for fun, and for charity!  Following that is next weekend, June 14, the Hospital Hill 5k run and walk.  Time to expand your horizons.  You never know, following this, you may be thinking of a half marathon, or even a marathon, such as these at Disney this January.

marathon final

There were over 25,000 runners in each of these 2 events in January.  Some of us were even crazy enough to do both of them (like Steve and I!).  You will never know what you are capable of unless you give it a try.  The run club will be meeting at 5:30 PM at Anytime Fitness, so now would be as good a time as any to start to run.  Keep moving everybody!

Vacation Training Partners

Other training partners

Sarah and I took my mom out to Albuquerque to see my brother and his family.  Even though we were not at home, we went running everyday.  It was a very nice change of pace.  Going out running is a great way to go see sites.  After Sarah and I did our run, we were joined each day by my nephew Richie, and their dog Oscar, who loved to go out and run.  Here they are with Sarah.

Of course I got to pose with them too.  Great scenery there, and the view of the mountains was so nice for watching each day.

Other training partners 3

Of course, it was always a race back to the house once we got to the halfway point.  Great way to exercise for everybody.  Oscar was also great to have along.  First time running with a dog again since Buddy passed in March.  Hopefully I will have some other news coming in the very near future in regards to a new training partner coming.  I can’t wait!  More to come on that later.  Keep moving everybody!

Our Future Sometimes Needs Motivation

future final

We may not know what our future has in mind for us, but we do have a lot of control over certain things.  We can choose to take care of our health better by watching what we eat, and staying active.  I have been saying this for years.  If it was always this easy, then why doesn’t everybody do it?  We have to dig deep down inside of us.  We have to find whatever it is that will “click” with us to make those changes.  This takes motivation, attitude, and ability.

Anytime Fitness slogan final

This is the slogan on the wall at Anytime Fitness.  I can focus on this quite a bit when I am doing my weight workout.  It helps me stay focused and to really think about why I am working out in the first place.  Keep these points in mind when we are struggling to keep ourselves going.  Working out is working!  But remember, anything worth having is worth working for.  Keep your head down and stay focused.  Keep moving everybody!

More Bling Doing Our Running Thing!

Fargo medals final

Well, Sarah and I had a busy weekend in Fargo.  We did the 5K run friday night, then the 1/2 marathon on saturday morning.  If we did both, it was called the Go Far Challenge, for Fargo!  We each got another medal for doing both.  We will add them to our collection over the years.

Fargo sign final

It was the 10th Anniversary of the Fargo marathon and half marathon.  They also had a 5K and 10K walk and run.  With all 4 races, there were over 22,000 people who participated!  It was a busy, but fun weekend.   Here is a picture of the start line for the 5K friday night.

You Only Fail if You Never Try!

WARC running club final

Last night was the first time meeting at Anytime Fitness for the running club.  I was joined by Kyle, Owen, Karen, and Rich.  We started out easy, as Karen and Rich were just beginning.  Karen was still very reluctant to start.  But, she made it a 1/4 mile!  We all have to start somewhere, and I give her a lot of credit for trying.  As time goes on, this will increase as well.  The rain held off long enough to get the run in.  Bottom line…it does not matter how far you want to run.  If you are interested, we will figure out some kind of a route to get you going.  The only people who fail are the ones who never make an attempt.  Kudos to you Karen!  See you for the next WARC gathering.  Keep moving everybody!
