Home for the Holidays!

Whoever said that brothers don’t miss sisters, has missed out on a lot of things.  Megan came home from college for Christmas…George Mason University in Farifax, Virginia.  Nick may be the tough guy, but deep down, he missed his sister.

Mr. Tough guy is happy!  Megan has not been home since mid August.  Molly made it home from SDSU a few days prior, but did not get to come to the airport because she had 4 wisdom teeth removed the day prior.  Believe me, she would have rather been at the airport!

We get to be a full family again for the next few weeks.  This is what the holidays are about…spending time with the people you care about, and love.  Not what presents you are going to get, or go have to buy, or the rest of the stress that goes with the holiday times.  Just spend time together.  Both girls have already asked when I am going to be working out, as they want to join me.  Whether at home, or going in to Anytime Fitness, it does not matter.  Another opportunity to spend together, and be healthier as a result.  As I have said before, the family that works out together…lives longer and stays together longer, and gets to spend more time together. Enjoy the holidays coming.  And remember, keep moving everybody!

What Are You Waiting For?

Are you taking advantage of the improved weather lately?  Are you getting out to enjoy it?  If not, what are you waiting for?  This morning was great for a morning run, and yesterday went out in the afternoon for a walk.  The fog this AM made it seem very calm, quiet, and peaceful, especially when going by the lake.

Hopefully you took advantage of the great weather.  It will be easy to remember the nice weather from yesterday with the special date we had:  12/13/14!  We won’t see this sequence again in our lifetime.  Are you waiting for the right excuse?  Are you waiting for the perfect day? Are you waiting until the time is right?  Well, that time, and day, is now!  Get out and enjoy!  Keep moving everybody!

Many Ways to Stay Active This Thanksgiving Holiday

There was not a shortage of things to do to be active this Holiday weekend.  It started off right on Thanksgiving with the Turkey Day 5K.  Here are some picture of us getting ready before hand.  The first one is Nick, Sarah, and I, and then my nurse Chris and I, and finally Sarah and I coming across the finish line.

It was a cold day, with temps below zero, but it did not stop the diehards from showing up that morning.  It was a great way to start out the day before spending the rest of the day eating!

Then the lighted parade Friday night.  It was a good way to walk another couple of miles, and we handed out candy to as many kids as we could see.  Brown clinic had our float, and it was a Jingle Bells theme.  We won first for best music presentation!  Way to go Brown Clinic, and especially to Stef Carlson and her husband Tim for doing the work getting the float ready!

It was a great extended holiday weekend.  You can still enjoy the holiday, and still find ways to be active.  You may just have to plan a little more!  Keep moving everybody!

Thanksgiving…Turkey, pumpkin pie, and…Running!

Turkey day run final

What things are common when it comes to Thanksgiving?  First of all…Family.  And with family, we will be spending time together, eating, laughing, and talking.  Most of us will have turkey, and pumpkin pie.  But how many of us will go out for a run or a walk?  Well, you don’t have to wonder anymore.  The 15th Annual Turkey Day run is coming up this Thursday, on Thanksgiving.   Apple cider, pumpkin pie, and we all gather to run/walk a 5k.  Then we all go home to have our turkey, and spend the rest of the day with our family.

Registration can still be from 8-9:45, with the race starting at 10AM.  It will be held at Great Plains Lutheran High school.  Come out and earn your food for the day.  Come out and exercise with hundreds of other people, and then go “stuff” our face for the rest of the day without feeling guilty.  Come join the fun.  It is a great family affair as well.  Keep moving everybody!

Brown Clinic–“Pretty in Pink”

KXLG radio station had a contest with judging here this AM, with the theme “Pretty in Pink”.  We at Brown Clinic went all out for this!  All of us wore our pink shirts, and decorated the clinic with Pink, and promoting awareness of Breast Cancer, and mammogram screening with our #D technology.  Here are a few pictures from today!  Win or lose the contest, we at Brown Clinic won regardless!  We show our support for good causes, and want everyone to be aware of what Breast Cancer can do to individuals, and their families.  We are all “Pretty in Pink”!
