One of my new training partners has been gradually getting bigger. Zeus has been worked up to 3 miles walking, and when Spring comes, we will start running. Here are some of the latest pictures or him.

Here he is relaxing, and chewing on one giant bone! He is well over a 100# now. We are a force out on a walk, and have to be especially careful on the ice, or he will take you right over. Here are some profile shots of him, just in case anybody thinks his look may not be intimidating.

This first one is him looking out the window when anybody comes up to the house. He is on instant alert.

And Zeus on alert when we went out last week for a walk when the temps were so nice. He is one strong dog. We usually did 2 miles at a time with him, but I went 3 with him last week, and he covers about 4 miles darting everywhere, and he was wiped after that. Fell asleep starting at 7 PM for the night, but then ready to go again by 6:30 AM. Another devoted training partner, as he becomes very upset if he does not get to go for a workout with you. I have to admit, it has been a lot of work. He is starting to come around and learning. 10 months old now. Looking forward to when all snow and ice will be gone for the season. Keep moving everybody!

I spent Thursday in Pierre with the first year medical students, and we met with the Governor and Lt. Governor, and discussed different legislation going on in the current sessions in Pierre. I had never seen the Lake by the capitol for quite a few years, and it was impressive.

It was 42 degrees by early afternoon, and great for going out for a walk to take in the scenery. You can walk around this lake and just take in the view. Here are a few more shots.

It was nice at home the last few days as well, so hopefully you all got out and took advantage of it. Zeus and I went for a 3 mile walk after clinic yesterday, and I think I wore him out. He slept the rest of the evening, but he had a great time explorer everything with the nice weather. Keep moving everybody!

I said on my last post how tough Hills can be for running. Here I am at the top of one, and the sign in the background says “Moon Mountain”…How appropriate…it flet like we ran to the moon!

Here is Sarah…of course, some of us felt a little better after them. It was a good thing I took the picture several minutes later after she was able to recovery!
The scenery there was very nice. Getting to watch all of this kind of made the Hills a little easier to take.

It is always easier to do a workout with other people as well.

My true training partners…Steve, my marathon partner, and of course Sarah, my forever running partner. It always make adventures somewhere else that much better when you can explore it first hand out running. Some of these places we would not see had we not been out on foot. Keep moving everybody!

Sarah and I were out in Deadwood the last few days for our annual state Family Medicine conference. When we took off from the hotel, we had only one way to go…up! A mile up, then a mile down, and then back! We stopped at the top of the one hill…quite the name. Stage Run!

Here Sarah is running up, then down. You can see how high a climb it is in the background.

Here I am as well!

I will show some more of our routes, and the scenery, as well as some with Steve, my marathon partner, in the next few days as well. It was nice being back outside and having a change in scenery as well. The only problem is these were not really hills, but mountains! Keep moving everybody!

What a nice break in the weather lately. Nothing like a 70+ degree shift in temp. When the wind chills were -30 below or worse, to going almost 40 above, it has been great to get back outside for a run or walk.

It does not really feel like winter going out for a run in these temps. Very comfortable. Yesterday the wind was not very fun, but it was absolutely perfect this AM. Sarah took advantage of this as well. Here she is out for her morning run.

And of course, Zeus cannot be left out. He loves going out for a walk, and when it is this nice out, we can go 3-4 miles with him, and we won’t freeze. That is what Zeus and I did this AM. He is getting bigger all of the time.

I don’t know how long this break in the cold will be, but get outside and enjoy it. It was really was a nice morning to be outside. Keep moving everybody!
