A Running Doc’s Life: Hitting the Reiflex Center!

When the weather is crappy outside, it is much easier to do some of your workout inside. Saturday morning, we did go for a couple mile run but after we hit the Reiflex center for a weight workout. We hit the Reiflex Center (our garage) for sure at least twice a week and strive for 3 times a week. It is a great way to work out and get rid of some frustration as well. It is always easier when you have a partner helping you out.

We started off with triceps dips. When we first started these, you could definitely notice you had muscles in the back of your arm. This really helps for running as well.

We also did some leg work as well. We try to mix it up where we do 2 exercises of arms, 2 of legs, and 1 core, then we do 5 rounds of those 5 exercises. Each of the sessions for the week are all different.

We did our quad exercises, then turned and did our hamstring lifts. You are definitely feeling things by the time you get to your 5th set. Then we moved on to the bench press.

Sarah struggles more here, but she has definitely been making progress. We are both in training for the South Dakota Senior games coming in August.

For the Senior games, the weight you have to bench is based on your age, not on your weight. So, somebody could have a hundred pounds on me, and we have to lift the same. The contest is how many times you can bench at that weight. When we started, I had to bench 125#, but now that I hit 60, I have to do 115#. Much better…but we are both making progress.

Then for core, this time either sit-ups or leg/arm extensions. You feel these when the set gets done. What makes it a little tougher is we do this first, then change and go outside for a run…when you are already tired. You especially feel it in the legs. That is how strength is made, so we are pushing each other. We do each of these exercises once, then repeat them all again until we have done 5 sets.

Of course, we have to show each other who is the toughest one! I hate making Sarah feel bad, so….

At any rate, we keep pushing each other. I would not go out and do this very often if she was not out there too. So, find a training partner, and make it happen. You become accountable to each other. Even if you can’t be in the same place at the same time… facetime works, or phone calls work…whatever it takes to push the other one. Have fun and get fit! Keep moving everybody!
