Taking Time to Relax

When you are deciding on your goals, take to the time to sit back and really think about them.  What do you think you can reasonably expect to change, or accomplish?  What do you expect to get out of the change should you achieve it?  So before you go diving into a list of goals that may be unreasonable, or unachievable, sit back and really take the time to think about it.  This goes for exercise in general.  Even when you do get into a regular exercise routine, it is OK to listen to your body and relax, or take a day off if you need it, or to ease back on how much exercise you may do that day.  You need recovery days too.  Here Sarah sits out at the lake and takes in some rays of sun after we had gone out for a bike ride around the lake on sunday, when it was still really nice out.  Enjoy the relaxation time too!

School Lunch Tips

With school in full swing, your child may be getting bored eating the same lunch every day (if they pack lunch). Here are a few tips to help add variety to your child’s lunches.

  • Make time once a week to plan the week’s lunches using MyPlate: this encourages your child to learn more about  healthy eating and may make them more likely to eat it, if they have invested their own time into the process.
  • Try new foods: try out new fruits or vegetables. This will encourage interest in trying new foods and can be especially helpful for picky eaters.
  • Pack extras to share with friends: if your child is a picky eater, you may try packing extras of a certain item that they can share with their friends which encourages them to try it.
  • Invest in lunch equipment: pack your child’s lunch in an insulated lunch bag or thermos which broadens the kinds of foods they can bring. Just remember to put an ice pack in the lunch bag or a quality insulated thermos to keep cold food cold and hot food hot.

Freeze Warning!

With the freeze warning tonight, it’s important to take proper precaution to save your garden and plants! Experts recommend covering your plants with blankets, if they are movable pots, place them closer to your house and you may even try wetting them down before covering them to provide further protection. This freeze may cause decreases in produce yields, so be sure to take some time today to protect your garden produce and flowers!

Grocery Shopping Help

 

The great folks at County Fair Foods and STRIVE 2 Survive have teamed up to help you select healthy choices in the grocery store. Throughout County Fair Foods, you will find labels indicating products that are healthy for you.  It’s still a bit of a work in progress, but we are hoping this will help you make healthy selections as well as be aware of healthier choices when selecting your products. We are so excited to be working with Jeff Gamber and his team to expand our efforts of promoting healthy foods and wellness! Next time you’re in the store, be sure to look for our labels!

Setting Goals–Stand Out

We had our first session for the next S2S program, and we had a discussion on goal setting.  You as an individual have to decide your own goals, and what it is you want to achieve with your health, and how exercise and proper nutrition can help.  You have to make yourself  “Stand Out” in your own eyes.  One way to help with this is to keep in mind when it comes to your goals, be SMART.

Your goals need to be: Specific; Measurable; Achievable; Realistic; and Timely–SMART.  As long as you keep your focus on these components, it will easier to reach your goals.  These next several posts will help elaborate more of things to consider when creating your goals.
